WELCOME TO OUR NEW NON-PROFIT
Stop the Chop NY/NJ now has more political muscle 💪
ABOUT US
We’re excited to announce the creation of Stop the Chop NY/NJ Advocacy Fund, a new advocacy organization affiliated with Stop the Chop NY/NJ.
Private helicopter operators have spent hundreds of thousands of dollars lobbying lawmakers in support of policies that enrich themselves at the expense of our health and well-being. Now, for the first time, we, too, will have a potent voice in the legislative arena.
What’s different?
The Advocacy Fund is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit organization that can engage in government relations to influence the passage of legislation in a way that our existing organization is not legally allowed to do.
Changing the law is the only way the current situation will improve. Like our sister organization, Stop the Chop Advocacy NY/NJ Fund’s mission is educate the public on the harms caused by nonessential helicopter flights over the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area and advocate for the elimination or curtailment of these flights through legislative and administrative action.
OUR GOALS
Pass Legislation
We are seeking passage of bills at all levels of government to ban or substantially reduce nonessential helicopter traffic over the NY/NJ metropolitan area.
Support Lawmakers Aligned with our Mission
We will support political candidates and elected officials who share our concerns and are committed to positive change that benefits communities on the ground.
WHY?
Fossil fuel-based helicopters pollute our air and contribute to climate change.
Helicopter noise is excessively loud, physically harmful, and damaging to our quality of life.
Nonessential helicopters are a tiny percentage of all tourism activity in NYC, contributing minimal benefit to the economy. In fact, most related economic activity comes from the purchase of fossil fuels.
Heavy helicopter traffic over densely populated regions like ours is a known safety risk.
WHO WE ARE
Stop the Chop NY/NJ and Stop the Chop NY/NJ Advocacy Fund are grassroots, nonprofit environmental organizations.
We are a diverse coalition of over 50 groups, including neighborhood associations, condo and co-op boards, businesses, park conservancies, environmental groups, and community boards, together representing tens of thousands of New York and New Jersey residents who want to breath clean air and live without the constant disruption of harmful noise from nonessential helicopters. See our coalition.
